I’m not sure if the fishing ponds I found above Hallsands Beach are part of Bickerton Farm Fishery or not, but I eventually found out that it’s Graham at Bickerton Farm you need to call on 01548 511220 to purchase your ticket so that you can fish there. You’ll also need to ask what’s in the ponds because there was a long list, but I think I can remember bream, carp, churb, perch and even rudd being mentioned. You’ll also need a rod license, which I’d never heard of and only goes to show how much coarse fishing I do. Fortunately, it seems you can buy a temporary license online from the Post Office, and I’m sure the folks at the nearby Devon Angling Centre could sort you out with all the kit if you wanted to give it a go. I’m very tempted as the two ponds I saw looked like they were teaming with fish when I popped round and it didn’t look like use was more than occasional. Then again Graham also recommended fishing for mackerel from the beach, which would be cheaper as no license is required and would be great on a BBQ. You might also want to speak to him about camping locally, as I did see some some campers in a field nearby with a stunning view of Hallsands Beach although not sure if it’s on his land though because as you can see above the C and G have fallen off the sign saying camping at his farm.
